Story: After I recorded the track and was done with it, I realized I'd forgotten to add the lyrics for the chorus part. I realized I wasn't actually mentioning the word '808' anywhere and wanted to put that in. I had 'finished' the track a few days earlier and already reset my Behringer Eurodesk 8000 mixing console, to work on another track. Especially the 'mic' channel. (Mic used was a pair of Sennheiser HD-25 headphones, usually used for dj-ing.) Ok, so what to do? Well, I tried recreating the (to my ears then super awesome) vocal sound I got from the verses, and match it with my new attempts at a chorus overdub. With little success. Don't remember how I processed it but was feeling kinda bad about not getting the right sound for the chorus. Finally I recorded a take anyway and decided to go with it after all. Only heard the track on my JBL 4410A's and that sounded ok. Sent off to label.
However, first time I actually heard the track out, I remember feeling really surprised about how good that chorus part actually sounded! I remember looking my buddy in the eye and we both felt the same thing. Yes, it was different, and yes it sounded kinda funny in any small system, but in that big ass live PA - track was booming and that final 808 part sound came through really well! Mission accomplished, love through machine. One love 808 eternal!
